So after seeing the price of .303 lately, I decided that I need a cheap shooter. While I have a .22, it just lacks a little attitude. Then I remembered the pawn shop here in town just got in another shipment of SKS's. They have a package deal, rifle plus 1 case of ammo for $500. Now for the question, the rifles they have left are all 1945 Tula refurbs. Would they have a chrome lined bore? How would you tell? I am seriously thinking of picking one up next pay, that is if they still have them...

Are you sure they're all 1945? I'm skeptical because it doesn't seem that any shipments were that well organized.
The stickied SKS thread from Curtton describes how to identify a chrome barrel, as well as many other tips to help you pick out a nice one.

That's what they told me. The selection they have is the leftovers form the 30 rifle shipment they got in. Only five are left, so all the newer ones were most likely picked up first.

I have been reading the threads, lots to read:D

Edit: So I started reading the threads, and it said that Tula production did not start until 1949? I am sure it was a tula, I even checked the stamp. They must have misread it as 1945.

They have the cheapest SKS and Ammo in BC but their SKSs run the full range from POS to Excellent. Make friends with Jeremy or Frankie and they should pick you what you want.
