does anyone have any info on sks conversions to use vz58 mags? just was wondering if there is a commercially available conversion kit or if there is a way to DIY. thanks for any info or tips!

Nothing I know of, but you can do , the AK mag conversion. I think there's a stick up top. If you can't find it, pm me and I have it on pdf. Or buy the new Canadian made adapter for AR pistol mags ( 10 shot legal) from Hical.ca ,there a sponsor/business on this board.

I have both a sks and vz and looked at this possibility and there would be no easy way as you would need to widen the reciever for the mag to fit width wise this was what steared me to use the mag adapter and mag release from seven six two systems , I already had tapco mags and the install is easy as pie and it gave me the ergos of the ak mag release so its ambidextrous

Why bother doing a magwell adaptor on an sks if it still limits you to 5 rounds, that's pretty dumb if you think about it. At least the Ar adaptor lets you shoot 10rds with ar pistol mags, if you're going to irreversibly modify your guns reciever to accept a different mag at least get some added bonus from the conversion. If I wanted to shoot 5rds I'll stick with stripper clips and the stock mag on my sks.

Yeah +1. Five rounds barely gets me hard anymore, and i sure as heck wont bastardize an SKS in order to take 10. Those contraptions look hideous when all said and done.

yeah well i also think its pretty dumb to assume the only good reason for a conversion is to increase mag capacity. other "added bonuses" to be considered would be the fact that vz58 mags are much better quality than any sks mags available, i was trying to avoid a drop in conversion that uses mags that i dont already have lots of, the commercially available adapters are fairly expensive, plus the enjoyment and experience gained by doing the conversion myself. thanks for your opinion though!

I can't really see the point in changing mags / adapters particularly as the beast just loves stripper clips from the top.

the benifit of the seven six two system is that it improves the ergonomics for those who wish to run standard tapco mags, it increases mag change speed and function I no longer need to break my grip on my trigger hand to operate the mag release. I can fire 2 5 rd mags in the time it takes to fire ten , I would sooner have better ergos on the gun than the extra 5 rds jmho each to their own. oh and little to no mods to your rifle basically plug and play aside of the mag mods that is.

That's what I'm here for!

As for the vz58 mags, if you have a bunch I'll assume you also have a vz58? If it were me I'd just go to the vz if I want detachable mags that work well and be happy with the sks as it is. It's pretty nice the way it it without adding those hideous duckbill mags, or look for a sks d/m that uses ak mags. I wouldn't mind one of those to be honest.

I know there's lots of aftermarket crap to bolt or swap onto an sks but most of them just look plain retarded imho.

The only bonus the ar mag adaptor gives in my eyes is a legal 10rd mag in a semi, but I don't want to spend more on a part than on a rifle itself and then still have to buy mags. Nor do I plan to run it in say 3 gun or some other action sport, which is where the adaptor would shine. Someone on here did the conversion in a folding stock with magwedge couplers and it looked pretty nice, I like the sks as it is so I will continue to keep mine stock. If I come upon one cheap that been bubba'd project I'd think about doing the adaptor.
