Heard all the rage in ar-15,s is the 6.8spc round but you need a new bolt mags and a barrel.
7.62x39 has the same or close to head dia. so could just change the barrel and modify the mag follower.
Just a thought any comments ,besides why bother.
 
Be an awful waste of money.....you can polish a turd as much as you want, it's still #### at the end of the day. Want a 6.8 SPC, buy one. The are avail in the AR 15 platform as well as in a bolt action (Rem 700 IIRC).
 
With enough time and money invested, you could chamber it in nearly any cartridge imaginable. Would it be worth while to re-chamber in any different cartridge, in a word, No......
 
Personally I like the SKS, it's a great cheap plinker.
But a duck is a duck is a duck, why does it seem lately everyone wants to make a goose out of it ???
There's nothing wrong with it just the way it is. IMO it would just be an experiment in burning cash - to do and to feed. Which is exactly what the SKS is not about.
 
"...just change the barrel..." After paying more for the custom made barrel and having it installed than you did for the rifle, you'd still have a poor trigger and poor sights.
"...if you can convert an SKS to..." Ditto. Plus have trouble finding brass, ammo and/or dies.
