SKS custom scope mount idea

I am figuring out how to mount a scope on an SKS.

Best mount for sure is the Choate, and any other that sticks to the receiver.

But I would like to use the original sights as well as stripper clips.

Thus I imagined a set-up close to the Garand M1C or M1D
or like the belgian FAL sniper that goes to the left side of the receiver and low.
With an optic of 32mm objectif max, it looks good to go and old fashion as well...

Of course it would be a custom job, but it doesn't look painful to do.

What are your objective thoughts gentlemen?

Lots of non-custom options, Kalinka and so on.

Good option, but seeing as you still have to drill and tap the side of the rifle, I would go with the home made angle iron mount, with minimal bubba.

Cut to suit and blued nicely... you can center the scope a lot more accurately with the angle iron idea, but only if you are very handy in the metal working department.

Mounted as low as possible to not see the iron sights, its a very good option for the lowest possible mount, which is paramount for accuracy. Best of luck.:)

My idea is to place a scope very close to the center axis of the rifle, so I can still use the iron sights, the stripper clips, without the need of any cheek rest.
Thus I would have just to move a little the head to reach the sights or the scope.
By the way this should lead to a very small mount, so light weight etc...

I am sure that you have already thought of this but make sure that at whatever height you mount that scope at you can still get the cover off to clean the rifle.
