Hi all. I received a Norinco SKS-D as a gift 2 months ago from a friend who served in the force decades ago. He got the rifle 15 years ago and was supposed to hand it to his son but he never got his license and showed no interest. His son is now 30 I think. Leverarms had a D on sale for $600 just days before I received mine. When I got the rifle, it was still in its original packaging with cosmoline and all. It is chromed lined and clean as it can be. Sorry I had to make you read this far but I thought it may be good to know a bit more about it. My concern is with the cleaning rod. It seemed to be locked in place permanently. It seems the bayonet lug had been pushed in too far up pinching the rod making it un-removable. I've added some photos, hopefully they can explain better than my lack of better words. Thanks everyone.

Sorry, here are the photos.

I thought the neutered bayo lug on the SKS D was modified so that there is a spring loaded button you push in to release the rod as there is no bayo to lock and hold it in place. The SKS M is the same. There are SKS D that also have a bayo still. Were made in both configurations.

op is indeed a lucky man , you have a good friend .

I wouldn't drill it.

does the cleaning rod wiggle a bit ?

Thanks, he is one of a kind. No, the rod does not wiggle and it barely spins. As someone mentioned, the threaded end of the rod is not screwed in. There's really no give at all. I'll just leave it like as it is and use a bore snake. Thank you all.

There's a spring loaded stud installed through the bayonet housing to hold the rod in place. If working properly you need only pull the rod down against it until the rod head disengages from the "claws" under the front sight and withdraw forwards.

Bingo! Thanks to Ijones and Eos! At first the spring will not compress but after soaking the front end in a cup of mineral spirits for 30mins and blasting it with penetrating oil, the spring finally compressed after a very heavy pull. Thank you very much!.

Its one of the later series that was brought in minus the bayonet but still far superior to the POS SKS D MC 5D that had a standard looking sks mag release common to the fixed box mag release, the mags never fed properly and rattled....

Good find, AK mags are little cheaper now as well.

I have an early one from 95 that does not even say D on it, only sks, I think it was the first run, has a spike bayonet

Hey Gunners! So I still have my D (still have not shot it). If I were to sell this today, what would be the fair price for it? Thanks!
