I was hopeing that would serve up some clues aswell but I couldn't find a single mark!

Sounds good. I'll try rippin some of that extra steel off.
 
I agree with PerversPepere .
Shape the mount you have and eliminate the unused material .
Plus if you want to see where the casings are hitting coat the mount with layout dye or even a felt marker ( anything that scratches easily ) . Fire off a few and look at the underside of the mount .
Personally I wouldn't try to alter the gun .
 
If you have to grind anything do not grind the rifle, grind the mount.

As I mentioned in another post that you started on this, the only scope mounts that there rifle were meant to have were the ones that elevated the scope quite abit over the ejection port/receiver.
 
My SKS( not a D model) ejects violently and vertically, so I agree with all the guys here saying that you should begin by first removing all that excess metal from the mount, and after that look at rebuilding the mount so that it's further from the reciever.

But more importantly...I am applauding your willingness to build your own mount and I encourage you to post detailed designs once you sort the bugs out.

That is way cool.

Done and done! :D I'll keep ya posted. Probably won't all come to fruition untill after xmas.
 
SKS scope mount

The best chinese mounts were pieces of angle iron bolted to the left side of the receiver and the only scope that allowed real stripper clip loading was the small 4x20mm Red Star scope.
A very short scope I wish they could revive today.
I made a good stable mount one day by using 1 1/2" square tubing with 1/8" thick walls and cutting away one side,leaving enough metal to span the length of the receiver cover but not longer. It fits the SKS tightly and is very low on the bore.
I made a recess to clear the receiver cover lever and screwed a weaver base rail on the mount. It functions perfectly but has to be removed to allow take-down of the bolt. I very much prefer the russian design of a left-side quick release mount. Now, if they only could make a lower one...:rolleyes:

Countersunk holes? Well oo-la-di-dah Mista french man ;)

actually designed mine so I can get the bolt out and the gas tube off without removing the full sized scope. I'll post a little vid here one of these days.
