SKS-D Magazine Problem

I REcently purchased a Nirinco SKS-D, rifle is in great condition. however i recently tried loading a magazine into the rifle that contained 5 rounds, i could not get the magazine to snap into the gun. however if i open the bolt the magazine loads fine, arn't SKS-D's supposed to be able to have a fresh magazine loaded into them with the bolt closed? any idea on what could be wrong? i tried this with 2 of the chinese 5 round mags.

Your AK mags are pinned to five, instead of 5.5 rounds. This is not an SKS D issue - it's a mag pinning issue.

Re-pin them to 5 and a 1/2 rounds, and your issue disappears. Fully legal, as long as it can't hold 6.

Yup, my guess would be that the mag is pinned to 5 rounds exactly and when you insert it into the rifle with the bolt closed, the rounds prevent the mag from latching... As you said, when you open the bolt, latching the mag with 5 rounds in it, is not a problem...

So, IMHO, you have to modify your mag to accept 5.5 rounds, you need a little "breathing room". Most guys pin the mag to 5.5 rounds... Just make DAMN sure it doesn't accept 6, stay legal, it just ain't worth it...

Sounds like they've got it figured, but if that doesn't do it (load 4 and you'll know), check the lips on the top of the mag. I had one whose lips were bent in a little, worked fine if inserted bolt open, but got caught if inserted bolt closed. Always cycled fine though.
 
Well on magazine#1 i loaded 1round into the mag and it clicked in just fine, if i tried loading 2 or more the mag wouldn't click into the rifle

Magazine# 2 i can load in 4-5 rounds in the mag, but i really have to try hard to get it to click into the rifle, and i cannot remove the clip unless i open the bolt. these mags are not " pinned" they have very long followers that limit the magazines to 5 rounds.

im assuming the problems lie with the magazines, is there anything i can try doing with them to solve this?
 
I bought an east german 5 round shorty mag a few years back and had similar issues. The solution? I took the mag apart, cleaned it, worked the spring a bit, lubed it up, reassembled it, worked the spring reassembled (moved the follower about a hundred times), loaded & unloaded the mag about 50 times, and then loaded a full 5 rounds into the gun and voila.

greendoh, YES, a long tail on the follower on the IS legal. For example, Marstar sells M14 5/20 round mags that have a long tail on the follower...

Empty Mags load into the rifle just fine, i think i fixed the problem, mag needed to be cleaned on the one, the other on i just ground down the follower so there was enought give for the mag to seat on a closed both, but not enought to fit in the dreaded 6th round. Thanks for everyones input, looks like i got this one beat.
