Will a Type 81 mag fit the SKS-D well?
I just got an SKS-D and I am looking for good mags for it.
I have mags that have the bolt hold open feature and I don't like them, it just doesn't make sense and the bolt also slams forward empty when I want to switch mags.
Any help would be appreciated!

Sounds like you have Yugo type mags which have the bolt hold open feature on them...any other AK type magazine should work fine...As I understand it,the Type 81 mags are cut differently from a standard AK mag,but may fit and function okay....

No. The type 81 mags would not lock into the SKS-D magwell. Maybe with some modification but I just decided to sell the SKS while the market was hot instead.

Thank you. Are you selling any standard mags? Or maybe you know anyone who does? Thanks

If you don't mind polymer mags the Magpul ones seem to work fine in them, fairy available and not too expensive. Although I would only pick up 1 to start with, my experience with SKS-D's is that they can be fussy with mags.

best to use AK mags, no fussing. alots of cheap mags on GP and marstar.

couple of year ago marstar converted AK mags for only $10 to fit the T81 so it works on both.

Thanks a lot for the tips; I just bought a few AK mags from Marstar. Great price and a big selection.

Unfortunately, the 10 and 20 round Norinco AK mags from Marstar cannot be inserted with 5 rounds in. 4 rounds or less are fine. Hopefully, they have good customer service and will be able to fix or replace them.

None of them will. The AK mag is pinned for 5 rounds in an AK. The bolt in an SKS intrudes into the magazine a bit more than an AK bolt, so you can only rock it back with 4 in the mag.

Is what it is.

it's not that hard to remedy the 4 rnd issue with mags and the sks-d.
All it takes is knowing how to measure the needed space for that last round, mark the mag, drill it, install a fresh rivet. Then drill out the original rivet.
simple.....
