Why no longer made? These used to be relatively inexpensive... Now sell for a ridiculous premium on the EE, so demand is obviously there.

I'd like to see them again or better yet a version that accepted VZ mags and retained a working bolt hold open!
 
Because the Chinese stopped making them. They were Chinese Type 56 Military SKS's modified for the western market like the Cowboy Companion, SKS Paratrooper etc. Demand in the US dried up when the import bans came into effect then they sent some to Canada then they stopped making them all together. Thus the price has went up here as relatively few came to Canada thus the high price now.
