What the hell was used to make that ..........thing?

Trying to make sense of the lower half but I can't.

Same idea as wooden stock, everything is held together by the receiver/trigger group. You can switch into the wooden stock basically within 1 minute. The lower part is full metal and the upper part is just laid into it and connected as described, very sturdy, a bit heavy though.

These conversions were attempted by a few CGNers in the past, maybe 6-7 years ago, when there where plenty of cheaper SKS Ds and no VZ58/858. I believe, Kasat had made a whole bunch of them and I bought one. Basically a very heavy SKS D.

I have several SKS and also a CZ-858 and CSA carbine. This one is unique in my opinion since the receiver portion is much bigger than the CZ series, so I like it. I could never do something like that, there is so much work included, so for me it's a keeper.

It's heavy but not as heavy as a Mini 14 target.

It's ugly as sin, but looks like something you might see on CNN in some 3rd world slum. So I guess it looks like it should.

The folding stock one seems to be like a totally different concept. I wonder how it is holding together. I can see a big bolt on the lower front.

Curtton is correct, when taking it apart, you can see that a lot of hours went into it, there is nothing even inside which looks cheaply made or a compromise. It's just the mating area between upper and lower which doesn't look nice but that is only close up.

It looks very much like one of Kalashnikov's early AK prototypes! See "Kalashnikov: The Arms and the Man" pages 70-76

For sale: Reproduction of rare experimental AK prototype:) This could be a big gold-mine for you!

Very good work I think on both guns. The only thing I would try to correct is the finish colour of the 3 wooden parts on the 1st one, and try to make them look alike... Good job :D
