Hello,

I recently acquired a Norinco SKS-D with 2 magazines. The mags are 10-round types which have been reduced to legal 5-round capacity. The rifle serial number begins with "88" and it has a standard stock without monte carlo. It was imported by Beta arms in the USA. It has no cleaning rod or Bayonet. The bayonet lug has a "plug" in it. Everything is in excellent condition. What would be the approx. Canadian value of this rifle? I'm asking because a friend told me it could be worth in excess of $600, which caught me by surprise...

$600+ has been the going price for the last couple years. The "correct" price is whatever the market is willing to pay.
Many might consider that overpriced but supply and demand is what sets the price -- when they show up on the EE for ~ $600+, they sell.

If the barrel hasn't fallen off yet, and they have, it might be worth something. I've seen two types of SKS D, the first type with bayo was not bad. The type without bayo I've seen was a junky rifle made for commercial sale.

The barrel is fine thus far, and the mags are solid steel and very well built. This appears to be one of the commericalized D's in which they removed the bayonet, plugged the bayonet lug, etc... to get around the American ban on chinese "military" SKS's. In either case, I omly paid $175 with 5 boxes of Norinco non-corrosive ammo.

Then you got one heckuva deal. And I don't even care for the D's, I actually prefer the standard one.

Absolute low end price for them is in the $400-$500 for one that's borderline trashed, $500-$600 for one in good condition. I personally wouldn't pay $400 for one in mint condition, but that's me. They do tend to sell for more than that, and quickly.

For me the approximate value is priceless, If i forgot my jack handle. Had one before, sold it and the 3/4 case of ammo left after i shot up all the dead fridges at the dump. Like anything else, new or used, it is worth exactly what someone will pay for it. Enjoy it for its purpose and your intention, for me that got old really fast and i begrudged it the safe space it took up.

I've got 2 standards. One is an original Tula...laminated stock...all matching serials...not a scratch on it...the other is a Tula re-arsenaled with new barrel ( "made in Russia" ), a new blued bolt...etc... the problem is these SKS's are addictive. You sudden find yourself wanting to collect the different varieties, which is how I ended up with this D. I suddenly found myself eyeing the Yugoslav SKS's on Marstar's website...

All SKS-Ds were made for commercial sales.

Got my blade bayo SKS-d for 250 at a gun show a year ago. Pricing fluctuates.

Hah! Just another Marstar Special: "We once had a couple of these for sale a few years ago, but will likely never get them again. We'll leave them up here for the google mojo and bait and switch you into buying whatever other crap we actually can get in."

Nuts to Marstar.

Heh, you're right. They aren't in the main product menu, but only found via a google search. I just noticed the "sold out."

The ones with the bayonets are nice and seem to be a little harder to find, there are lots of them the out there with the lugs cut. I have got a couple from the early 90's with the bayonets, don't shoot them much, but still like to have them around. If you are going to pick one up take your time and wait for a nice one, there is a lot of crap out there.
