I am Looking to buy an SKS for a cheap shooter. I was going to buy local, but the place here in towns prices are a little high. I am looking at Lever Arms, Moving Target and Frontier Firearms. I am looking for a good condition shooter. Refurbs are fine with me, but I still want a decent one. I heard that the ones from Lever can be a little sketchy sometimes, and since I will not be able to go into the store and look, A good honest dealer who could pick a nice one out would be really nice. I hope I am not asking too much. Thanks.

Oh Oh whats this?Coming over to the dark side? I got mine from Home Hardware in Yorkton. Both refurbs both in fine shape. Was 199.99 plus shipping.Tell'em you're from BC and to pick out a nice one.

I deal with Lever all the time because they're nearby and they're cheap; they're fine but don't bend over backwards for their customers in my experience. More of a volume dealer I guess.

I bought two SKS from Edgar at Moving Target and he was terrific at picking me out a couple of goodies. If you're through Vancouver check out Lever 'cause their prices are low and, from what I've seen, their refurbs are pretty good. If you're going through the mail, call Edgar.

MILARM in edmonton has a ton of them right now, call and ask for cody tell him tyler sent you I'm sure they'll pick you out a great one they range from 240 to 300 for laminate stock etc etc w ww.milarm.com

i live in vancouver and i bought 7 russian SKS from moving target and home hardware.

yes, honest dealer is important and good customer service especially if something goes wrong. from my experiences with ed at moving target and rod at HH , they fit the mould. i havent had the chance to deal with marlin at frontier but he seams good too.

but before ordering, read the SKS45 sticky , know what you want .

they most likely refurb. do you want painted bolt carrier? how about lam stock? always looks nice , how about chrome bore ?

BTW: welcome to the dark side.

I looked at a few of the recent import refurbs before buying mine.
My opinion, and the store guys is the same, they're all looking really nice.
Mine turned out to be an excellent shooter, with surplus ammo and the iron sights.

As you just want a shooter I'd just go to a local store and buy one, or one of the forum sponsors.

I am leaning to Frontier firearms (sponsor) right now. They have the black bolt, regular wood ones for around $230. Plus shipping is free. What year would most likely have a chrome bore? since its gonna be a shooter, better to have one I guess. I read through the majority of the posts, lots of info to take in.

With all due respect/ how much is a little high?
you have shipping costs , mark up etc. I bought some from Frontier
as it is not worth it to order a case or two.
Another reason I don't sell ammo anymore.
My rant for the day

They want $250 each for the rifle, and they are all earlier ones with the black bolt and standard wood. The ammo is $299 a case, $250 if you buy with a rifle. I am looking at frontier because they offer free shipping with all firearms. But moving target has a really good rep with Customer service, from what I read anyways.

You could contact Lever and see what other dealers in your neighbourhood that they have sold rifles to so you can check one out locally.

Only two places in town that sell guns. One is the one mentioned above, other one is WAY over priced, how over priced? They want $39.99 for a box of Winchester .303. Wally mart sells them for $25.00. They did get some SKS's in a while ago, but sold out. The price would be ridiculous anyways.

Either get it from Milarm or get it from Marlin at Frontier, Frontier is great to deal with, I bought a SKS and case of ammo from him. You can not go wrong. His shipping. is either free or reasonable. Give Marlin a call.
If you are looking for a collector or a really nice piece of history, Call Ed at Moving Target. His stuff is top notch.
Yorkton HH has quite a few nice refurbs on their shelf. I have seen them myself.

I bought at P&D. I was going to go with Lever but the dork that I talked to on the phone wanted $200 to ship 2 SKS to me! He asked if I had any suggestions. Yeah - cancel the order! Went with P&D as they were dropping off a case of ammo for us and they ran the rifles over at the same time. Should arrive this week.

Can't say I had any issues with Lever. Although I did ask for a laminate stock and they sent me a wood (which was in mint shape anyways). Shipping was fast and the service was fine. Better then my last dealer experience with an exceptionally cheap handgun...

ammo at milarm is 180 a crate if you buy from them and they have every kind of russian you could look for

Quit pumping there ass.. Milarm is the worst gun shop on the face of the planet... Rude staff with the IQ of a sack of hammers ..Over priced for 60 year old junk, 99% of firearms are missing parts... The Staff there is the worst ever.. I have no idea how they stay in business being such #######s... And from what I read I am not the only one who feels this way
