I have received word from my main supplier of guns and parts that all importers will be having the magazines pinned overseas and there will be no more follower welding and that the magazine pinning will be done on the magazine base with the serial number restamped on the side. Anyone have more on this subject?

Supplier

what is the name of the supplier?

They are one of the sponsors, but at this time I would rather not say. I received an e-mail yesterday about some items and included was a response to my inquiry regarding buying another SKS. I requested a follower pinned SKS such as the ones I already own. The statement made was that all importers will be using the mag shell pinning. I am asking if anyone else may know this as fact.

Ya, thats how it has been for a while, only the first little while sks's have had pinned followers, now it is all supposed to be pinned shells because its harder to be removed. Heck the sks we got a week ago had a pinned shell, damn there ugly.

possibly only for the SKS with the hinged floorplate... you cant just stick a rivet in a integral SKS mag due to the size and movement of the follower.

Just to recap, this post was only for SKS's. There were two types of magazine limits (rivets never used). One welded a rod onto the cartridge follower and the other to the bottom of the magazine shell as many of us know. Rivets are used in many other types of firearms, not fixed mag SKS's. I am just looking for a definitive answer that all SKS's now will be shipped with the magazine shell weldment and the serial number restamped on the side of the magazine like the original Bell imports.

So are the supply for follower pinned SKS's with the silver bolts all dried up?
I picked up a laminated version from Tradeex and the are welded and re-stamped on the side of the magazine. The rifle was however in excellent condition and received great service from Anthony.

Have known this for a while now, the only reason we got the follower plugged ones was due to the mix up which had then coming into Canada unplugged. Just think, there are a lot of students in Ukranian high schools plugging mags for the next shipment right now! :p

Glad I picked up my 4 follower plugged SKS's when I had the chance. :D

actually there is another method , the chinese way. they drill a tiny hole on the mag floor just below the follower and place thin solid rod, held in by the flaring of the rod on the outside , quite small and not bad looking. this method is what i heard an importer tried to get the russian to do without success. we shall see how marstars chinese SKS are pinned when they arrive .

What's the big deal about where the pin is?

This is how mine is done.
