SKS detach mags made of metal?

Hello fellow SKS fans,
I'm a newbie so I apologize if this question has been answered somewhere in a past posting. I recently broke my TAPCO detach mag while shooting in the cold (chunks came off the feedlips and duckbill) and considering the price of replacement mags, would prefer to get metal ones to avoid this in the future ( we live in a mostly cold climate after all). However I have not had any luck finding metal versions of a detach mag available in Canada. Does anyone know if such a creature exists? and if so where? Or if not, is what happened to my mag a common problem or did I get a lemon?

Westrifle had a full metal duckbill mag but they are sold out,you can look on the EE(equipment exchange) forum here.

sksman sells the John Mason 5rd mag, it's made of metal ... and ships to Canada. But I seem to recall a post that indicated that you needed to do some filing to the magazine in order to get it feed right. It may take some searching to find out what kind of work you need to do to achieve a properly functioning mag.

the mag that you are referencing is a piece of #### and complete waste of money.

Agreed, actually. Just my .02, but i bought a duck bill mag for an SKS, and gave it an honest try, shortly thereafter selling it. An SKS is not a tac driver, or a beautiful custom work of art (short of the whole beauty in the eye of the beholder bit lol) so if im shooting it, its because of one of its greatist atributes, reliability. The fact that i can beat a tank to death with that thing, and still fire rounds; the duck bill mag took that away completely. everything semi auto is pinned to five rounds anyways so i find u just cant beat the factory pivoting mag for these guns.
I say if you want a detatch mag without major problems, buy a D model sks, or a VZ 858
 
in my experience, the tapco is the best mag available on the canadian market. i've never had a mis feed and they never fail to hold the bolt open. if yours broke, see if you can get a refund. if not, buy some more for $29 FROM fabsports.
 
Have used both the tapco and the steel mags. As mentioned, the Tapco is a far superior item. The steel one has a unique look to it but can be a frustrating product to use.
 
dude the metal mags are crap unless you modify them and tinker to make them work, get tapco mags.

by the way if your mag duckbill lip broke it was either because the mag was defective or you did not insert it properly. I have had tapco magazines for years and they are still working brilliantly.

IMHO tapco mags are the way to go for duckbill mags.
 
I have tried several brands of metal SKS duckbill mags, not one of them has stood up to higher round counts. Concerns like broken spot welds and bent feed lips. Tapco is the only way to go. By the sounds of it the damage that occured to your magazine is the result of trying to remove or install the mag without the bolt open.
