Hey guys. Just did the bolt mod that lets me insert/remove Tapco mags with the bolt closed. Mod was straight forward and worked out well enough with only one hitch. The mag can only be inserted successfully when loaded with four rounds. Four rounds, no problem. Five rounds, mag won't seat enough to engage the mag release:confused:. It appears to me that the mag follower needs to be able to travel a little bit further down in the mag body (almost like it needs to hold 5 1/2 rounds) to allow the mag to seat properly. The mags are the newer style Tapco ones if that makes any difference. Has anybody had this problem before? Did the proper search thing using a couple of different wordings and with no luck. Any help offered this newb would be appreciated.
Thanks.

the bolt mod is a good idea when using a tapco mag , its easy to do .

altho i had a tapco mag once , i never used it .

If you were ambitious you could open the mag and file down the finger-shaped plastic stopper thing to allow a little more distance for the bolt to depress the 5th round, thus allowing the mag to fully seat. Just make sure it won't fit 6 :p

Since my original post, I took out the limiter and shaved it down a little bit at a time with lots of test fitting in between. The mag is very close to seating now, but any more trimming of the limiter I feel will allow an incredibly evil sixth round to be forced into the mag (followed closely, I'm sure, by the immediate wholesale slaughter of baby harp seals, ducklings, kittens and pandas while being book ended by apocalypse and the second coming of Christ.:bangHead:). Sorry....couldn't resist that.

Any how, I'm hoping that with a little grinding on the lower edges of the bolt, the mag will seat. This seems to be solution being offered over on Survivors.
Thanks for the input guys.

Here, hold my beer and watch this...

To bad bj got banned but he has the fix for this. Actually it had nothing to do with your follower but how you seat the mag in the magwell.
I will try to dig and find it before that ban hammer comes back again ;)

Thanks, would appreciate your help. At this point I've figured that discretion is the better part of valor and have suspended any further grinding operations. I just don't want to screw anything up chasing down the "maybe this will help" solutions that I'm concocting. If it turns out that I won't be able to insert a mag with the bolt closed, then at least I can be happy with being able to remove a mag with the bolt closed. It would just be nice if I could carry the rifle with no round chambered, bolt closed, and a full mag inserted.
Hope that makes sense.
