Ok before you're all over me - I have a 1949 Tula with spike bayonet, 90-degree gas block, numbers match, all the goodies yadda yadda yadda.

I am NOT going to bubba that one.

My other SKS - I've installed a bipod, muzzle brake, and now I'm putting a drum on it. I like the look. Sense or not, meh.

So - if anyone out there has some experience, I'm just wondering - I've ordered the drum (it hasn't arrived yet), and all too late I've just considered the aspect of loading it. I'm Canadian, so it's pinned to 5. Me Polack, so bought first ask questions later.

Does anyone know offhand if I can just squeeze 5 rounds in from the top a la stripper clip? I've found conflicting info on the net - some say the pin keeps the drum from turning, so top-loading is all it can do. I've seen only one video where you have to open the mag up each time to rotate the rounds in from the bottom). I'd like to hear it straight from someone who has one. I'd like to avoid having to remove the damned thing every time I want to load it.

Thank-you.

Did you find the answer. I'm curious to know. Was the drum s straight fit or did you have to remove some of the stock. I've seen photos online where the stock was cut out to make room

It will depend on drum design. There is various styles and set ups. Some have to be loaded by removal of rear cover and then loaded. Some have to crank a ratchet type feeder. Too many things to do in order to place 5 rds in.
It would help to know what type of set up you bought in order to answer your question
