I am considering buying one of those dust covers that has the rail on it (one piece) as I like the idea of not removing the rear sight, not having to do any mod's to the rifle and being able to use the iron sights should I choose (see through). Can those of you who have bought one of these please provide feedback on them?

Thanks.

I haven't bought one yet, but I'm about to. They can be made to work. It just depends on how far you want to go. Careful filing of the front v points to make it snug, remove the take down pin and run a 1/4-20 tap all the way through (with the cover in place) will make it a solid mount that retains zero. There is also another way to secure the back of the receiver cover, but it involves welding a small plate to the cover. I can provide a link if you'd like.

Yupp. The key to making a receiver cover mount decent is removal of the takedown latch pin and tapping the hole and replacing with bolt...

Which means unless you want to permanently alter the gun (albeit only a little bit) this might not be for you. Some people have had success without tapping, but many have tossed them in the trash...

Have you checked out the kwikrail yet? Its a popular option that requires even less modification (just removal of the takedown pin, not tapping anything)

Here's what one guy did on the sideboards. He sanded the back of the receiver cover until it was flush with the receiver (it suck out a bit). Then the plate was welded to the receiver cover. That was done so that during the forward part of the recoil (bolt slamming gone), some of the shock is taken away from the front two v points.
