OK, I am experiencing some extraction issue with my SKS. I THINK this is a Norc, but not certain. Bought at a gun show about 6 years ago and have since put maybe a case through. Until recently I was experiencing no issues with this rifle. Now, this. Please, I may be using incorrect terms, just call 'em as I see 'em.

Photo 1 shows the bolt with the "Firing pin retaining...ummm, pin" in the correct position. note the red circle and the positioning of the "pin face".

OK, now photo 2 displays what happens when I fire 3-4 rounds...and the extraction problems begin. With the "pin face" in this postion, the carrier and bolt are very diffcult to manually cycle, can easily see why gas won't throw it open.

Photo 3 shows the wear mark being made on the bolt carrier from this issue...

and photo 4 shows the troubled arm...

There are 2 issues here...

issue 1, extraction problems.

issue 2, this is driving me F%^KING BONKERS!!

Any input, much appreciated! would prefer a mcgyver fix at this time, have no interest in purchasing a new bolt or parts IF it can be avoided. I mean, it's an SKS...likely getting a Russian whenever they show up at Cabellas Winnipeg (SIR).

Thanks in advance!

when your firing pin is forward how hard is it to rotate the "pin face" ? if it is pretty easy then look under the pin face and see if there is still a tiny locking lug, this prevents the pin face from rotating .

this will cos difficulties in ejecting and manual charging bcos the pin face is preventing the bolt from unlocking properly , thus the carrier markings .

simple solution is to replace the firing pin retaining pin .

BTW : looks to me you got an early chinese SKS , looks good .

Thanks Curtton, was hoping to fix it another way. I'll dismantle the bolt and see what I can sort out. Yeah, I'm not sure what it is really, no markings aside from some triangle and serial number. Stock was originally that bug gut orange, with a finish so rough it could give you splinters. fired about 10 rounds and then refinished the stock.

Thanks curtton, will post a follow up if I figure something else out.

LOL! yeah, that's what I was thinking. Not so much the few bucks, more the fact that the pin is likely worth 50 cents tops and TNT would probably want 12 bones... WHEN and IF it arrives. That and just looking for one. Meh, I'll take a look around and see what I find. Thanks!

I remembered when I pulled my pin, it was INCREDIBLY hard to get out, and/or rotate, almost like it was pressed in.

I don't remember seeing a locking lug when I dismantled it and had always thought that the pin would not rotate because of how hard it was pressed into the bolt.

true, in most cases the retaining pin is hard to remove but in his case for some reason moves by the shots of the rifle so it might be loose.

his like mine is an early chinese and my early chinese has a tiny locking lug on the retaining pin , there are no lug on any of my yugo , russian, sino or D .... mmmmmh . could the early chinese are better built? :D:D:D

well, this one does not have a locking lug, and regarding difficulty removing it, not overly. A few blows with a center punch knocked it loose without issue. Signs of wear are present as well. Definitely have to replace this I think. I hope Numrich has something, otherwise any ideas as to where to go for such a part?

Thanks!

curtton, you got me thinking. I've been trying to determine exactly what this thing is. I see no chinese markings, and from what I've seen of chinese examples I'm beginning to wonder if this is isn't a Russian or Romanian. Not sure if anyone can determine by the symbol marked on the receiver. I tried to duplicate it, can't see it to clearly, but appears to be like the image I created below. Does this look familiar to anyone??
