Hi,

I got a Russian made SKS and yes the gun known best for it's reliability jammed on me :runaway:. After loading the bullets I would pull back the charging handle and let it go and the bullet would get jammed up and the handle would stay partly opened. A bit of wiggling solved this problem but it was still annoying. I'm just wondering if anybody else has had this problem and if they found a remedy?

Oh and the fact that it was -30C in a cold prairie winter might have had something to do with it. :p

I've used my SKSs without issues at -40c on several occasions. Never had a feeding issue other than once and that was my fault. To much lube on the moving parts.

I knew better but really dislike running my firearms, bolt or semi dry. I sprayed the moving parts contact area with Graph Kote and later Teflon. They both work and have never had any other issues.

Some SKS rifles have a spacer bar on the follower arm. I haven't had issues with them or seen any but is it possible that it could be to far forward, causing the follower to dip to far back or forward.

Does it have the steel rod pinned to the follower arm? If so, check to see how freely the follower tilts. I bet it's sticky, and that's your problem. As it elevates it's supposed to tilt to keep the proper angle on the cartridge. If it does not do this, the head of the cartridge may be to low/tip too high.

I had this problem using soft point hunting ammo. The bolt would drive the round into the feed ramp and flatten the tip of the bullet.
When you load, make sure the rims go thru the slot for the stripper clip. I also make sure that after the 5 th round is loaded, I push them all down to make sure nothing is jammed and make sure the top round points upwards toward the feed ramp and not straight.
Betcha at -30c, your mitts probably got in the way and the bullets didn't seat properly.

I've had mine jam the round up on a 45 deg angle, it totally misses the chamber. Haven't found to problem yet but pretty sure it's mag related.

I had this when I was shooting fast on target with multiples clips. In my case I think it was because I didn't inserted the clips all the way down.

From my experience thresher has the right idea.. I had to drill out the pin holding the follower and replace it with one that moved freely ... The temp is irrelevant to this

Firstly, is it the original mag or after market?

Secondly, you cannot ride the bolt when loading your first round. It needs to slam in that first round from all the way back. If you hold it back or slow it down even slightly, it will jam.

I had the same problem. As Thresher said it is probably the pin in the magazine so to speak. It's probably to long. I actually bent mine, as recommended to me by a nice lad at the range and it fixed the problem. You could also file 1/4 of an inch off the pin. Remember if you file down enough of the pin to fit a 6th round in you have created an illegal firearm. You must turn it into the police and ask for forgiveness.

mine does the same thing, just havent gotten around to getting a new mag.. its been like this since day 1. got it better but still does it. itll slam the bullet against the mag wall so hard the bullet will go half way into the casing. doesnt seem too safe lol

good thing i dont really care for it
