okay so I got a set of William's Firesights and need a little help with the install. The rear peep sight went on no problems but I'm having some difficulty with the front.

I used my grinder to cut a groove in a drill bit (stole the idea from some enterprising soul here at CGN - thanks - ), made a "specialized" tool and removed the front sight. Where I'm running into trouble is with the drum underneath, which the front sight screws into.

From what I've seen, that drum is supposed to be punched out... so far I've had no luck, that sucker is jammed in there good! Actually, it kind of looks like it has mushroomed a little bit. So now I'm here looking for tips and tricks before I go pounding on the other side and mushroom it as well.

Any bright ideas?

Get a front sight tool to push it out, or you could possibly use some small sockets with a c-clamp or vise. Theyre not suppossed to be punched or drifted out, they are pressed.

I have williams firesights on 2 of my sks. If you don't have a vice or sight adjustment tool, you can beat them out with a punch and a hammer, just make sure you firmly support the rifle, and be firm with your hits. I used a couple of pieces of metal on the floor, put the sight drum in the middle, smacked it hard and repeatedly with a hammer and the biggest robertson or hex screw bit I could find. Worked fine, no marks, but I was sure it wasn't going to move until I was ready to give up.
