Just got my russian and am going through the mandatory "50 years in storage cleaning", and i'm noticing that there seems to be a spring on the firing pin.

All my reading has told me that it is a free floating firing pin and because of this I have to make sure its super clean all the time in order to avoid a slam fire. And also that i can get a third party firing pin spring to safeguard against this problem.

Whats the deal, did the Frontier Russians come with a non-free-floating firing pin?

1949 to late 1950: Type 1 bolt with springloaded pin. Check the "who has the nicest sks from this shipment" thread in this forum for a picture of a 1950 field stripped.

i just updated the SKS45 FAQ sticky with pics of 3 types of firing pins . go to B8b.
