SKS firing pin snap?!?

Firing Pin

Well an update on my broken firing pin - Tradex really came through! They did not have 1950 pins in stock so they took one out of one of their other rifles and sent it to me free of charge.

I would highly recomend these guys - they take care of you even on surplus guns.
Good to see that the company came through for you..Can't beat good customer service...Love the SKS..

This is the main reason why they ditched this design feature for the free floated pin design. Way more robust and also much longer life span because the lack of the tab being smashed back and forth between the bolt and the hammer.

I have read that the free floated pin is more durable, but I want to move back and forth between corrosive, and non, and have read that the free floating pin can cause slam fire with non corrosive ammo even if it is not jammed, due to it contacting the softer primer, upon arming. Has anyone experianced this? If so I will buy a couple pins for each of mine from murray, and replace them if they snap. I was going to start a thread asking about this, sorry about hyjacking

Glad to hear that tradex was able to help you out.

Ya, the advantage is definitly the fact that you dont have to worry near as much about your gun being dirty and causing a slam-fire. Then again I have never heard of one breaking until it happened to me. It was probably brittle when I got it, but I guess I will find out if it ends up breaking on me again in the future.

Before having surplus, i shot only commercial ammos (pmc, federal, winchester and remington) without a problem with a free floating pin. If the free floating pin move freely, i wouldn,t worry:)

How free floating is free floating? I've seen people shake theirs on youtube and heard it rattle around. Mine shakes once or twice then the pin gets stuck forward, but takes essentially no force to poke back in with my finger. Would that slamfire or (EEK!) fire out of battery? The whole bolt contraption seems spotless.
