To help with an ongoing problem with my SKS, I have read about a spring that can be installed to reduce the slam fire or 2-3 round bursts. It is always fully cleaned but after 20-30 rounds it starts acting up again. I wont let anyone shoot it any more until the problem is fixed, not safe at all. Advise is welcome

thanks !

Try the Murrays firing pin and spring upgrade

They are hard to find in Canada, I believe I got mine from Hical.ca, but that was over a year ago. I had popped primers in mine, I upgraded the spring and pin and it still happened, so I did the bolt-face treatment and another spring (the Murrays spring broke into pieces as a result of the popped primers so I replaced it). That did the trick, a year and several hundred rounds and no issues.

Hope that helps

Murray's in Texas I believe, he ships to Canada, easy to install. Here's the link:

Look at the "bolt face issue" Murrays references in his website, about stoning the face and countersinking. In my case the firing pin was not the issue. It was the small imperfection on the bolt face that caused the primer to ignite and not the firing pin itself. The primer face got pounded back into the firing pin recess and im sure the shock from detonation or the steel particles that got driven in broke the firing pin spring. Don't get me wrong, its a high quality pin and spring he makes, top notch, just that there was the bolt face issue as well on my 1954 Tula SKS. Had I done just the bolt face and not the spring/pinfrom Murrays, I am convinced that alone would have fixed it. But I'm glad I have such a nice pin and spring in it now as well.
