I was looking at these at Cabela's in the States but didnt get one because I didn't think I could take it back to Canada legally. I think it was an ATI.

If I find one in Canada.....is it worth picking up? I hate the looks of them, but they would make carrying the rifle on my motorcycle a lot easier. But do they hurt accuracy (I have a Norinco SKS) enough to make the gun useless for hunting with?

Cabela's Canada has them, along with some sponsors. I can't see changing from the norc stock to anything would hurt accuracy.
ATI stocks are know for being not so great, Choate makes a folding stock and Choate in general are supposed to be better products.

Okay- accuracy was going to be my question, too.... Doesn't Choate make one of the Dragunov style stocks, too?

Accuracy will be reduced with a folding or composite stock, especially for the Russian SKS's. As I previously mentioned in another thread here the Russian stocks are well made to bed the barrel and hold the receiver tight to the stock. The folding stock has less points of contact and does not make as a tight fit. If you're looking to make your SKS more compact or to give it a different appearance, sure go for a folding stock. However accuracy will drop off. Another issue is the buttstock is operating on a pivot point that is not stable. This means when you have it to your shoulder to fire it's not going to be stable and accuracy again will drop. If you put this item on a Chinese SKS especially, an already "not as well made rifle compared to it's Russian counterpart" will be even less accurate.

Finally, with our lovely cold Canadian winters, you're more likely to have the buttstock snap off at the pivot point. I've seen it happen.

Functionality and accuracy speaking, they are a waste of money. Novelty and Zombie Hordes/TSHTF speaking, they're awesome.

If you have an SKS kicking around that is a piece of garbage, pitted to hell, rusty, horrible rifling, etc., add this stock to it.

If you can afford the Choate go with it, ATI stocks are crap, I have seen no less than 8 of the folders around here fail, break and split. The so called Dragonav ATI stocks aren't much better, often they do not positively lock up the trigger mech causing the rifle to double.

I have an ATI stock for my SKS and the week point is the hinge. It is all made of plastic and it does not lock open properly. It will fold if knocked or if the rifle is grasped by the buttstock (with resulting hurt fingers!)

I have another stock by Choates for my Rem 870 and the hinge is made of metal and is much stronger. I would choose a Choates over an ATI folder. It takes more effort to make it fold at the wrong time... But it is still a bad idea to grasp that stock to carry your gun as it may still fold on your fingers!.

Another option for the SKS would be a Tapco stock that accept AR telescoping stocks. They look good but I have no experience with them.
