SKS Franken Mag ?

It usually applys to when the pinning of the mag alters the exterior look. The crappy welded pin or the huge rivet on the bottem. The more tastefull pins are done internally.

The fact is that all SKS carbines, being semi-automatic centre fire rifles, must have their 10-round magazines limited to 5. Some people confuse any pinning or limiting with the dreaded Franken-Pin.

What is so objectionable about the actual FP is that a large pin is put through the exterior mag. body (like the bolts in the neck of Frankenstein's Monster), obliterating the factory serial number on the bottom. If it doesn't alter the factory markings, it is not a Franken-Pin.

My SKS has the round block in the bottom of the mag. The weld on the exterior was painted over with black paint.

This is FRANKENPINNING!! And essentially by having to paint and then electropencil they Serial number back on, usually on the side of the mag. This essentially makes all frankenpinned SKS's a refurb, even if they were numbers matching to start with. :(

This is what a typical pinned SKS mag looks like. or it mat have a small solid rivet head, or be internally pinned and invisible with the mag closed:

THIS is a franken pin:

The base of the mag is so badly mangled that the serial number had to be re-applied on the side. Brought to you by the same retards who decided to pin the SVT40 mag by cutting it in half (but leaving the spring alone so it wouldn't work properly).

Yep, that's my SKS alright. Still shoots really well so I won't complain ;).

This is the real "FRENKENPIN"

iF YOU SHOT TO MUCH, WELD WILL BROKE AND BIG PIN WILL COME LOOSE INSIDE THE MAGAZINE BOX.

Weimajack, I can beat that. I recently got a Chinese SKS, and the brass spacer was GLUED. a few shots and there it went. At least, the mag appearance is still intact from the outside. I'll weld a small rod to the follower... I think it's the one and only really "clean" way to go. I'm happy that I have a MIG welder :)

"Frankenpinned" describes the early welded plugs. The final result was a partially or fully ground down serial number. The later rivets are ok, and certainly not unsightly. The nicest technique IMHO are the pin welded followers of the original 2008 IZH imports.
