Hi all,

I am new to the SKS and debating between a new military Chinese rifle
from Marstar/Frontier or the refurbished Russians from Lebaron in GTA (with silver bolt).

Would appreciate it if anybody could show me what the pro/cons for each
are....

Thank you,

2 weeks ago I was asking myself the exact same question so I got both. The russians from lebaron look nice with the laminate stock but the chinese marstar has a chrome barrel and is unissued. Haven't fired either of them yet.

Read thru the SKS 45 and SKS 56 stickies, Curtton collected more details on each than you can shake a stick at. Lots of pics too. Functionally they are the same: stone cold reliable

Thanks for the feedback.
I think I will order one from each and compare them at the range in a few weeks.

If it's a lightly refurbed russian, it's had all the kinks worked out and usually functions flawlessly. The triggers tend to be a little smoother and they cycle much smoother than any of the the Chinese SKS's I've shot.

One of my heavily refurbed bbq guns is all that and is actually the most accurate Russian in my collection.

I got a /262\ factory SKS with a case of ammo last year and it was the second worst gun I've ever owned. Works great now but it took some file work and lots of trials to get it there. Good thing it came free with the ammo :)

Why would you buy a refurbished rifle when you could buy new unfired surplus.

Because the Russian is likely in better condition fit and finish wise, despite being refurbed.

I hear the occassional report of a Chinese sks being more accurate, but from experience and from what I have read here and elsewhere, the russian sks's are the better guns.

A nice laminate one actually looks alright as well. ;)

Buy all you can afford, now.

Keep the one(s) you like and sell the rest after the LGR is scrapped.

Gotta feelin' they're going to be hard to come by, soon.

Guys, the Ruskies are getting scarce, especially the nicer looking ones. Three GTA dealers (owners) have now told me this. I am going over to pick-up one more Ruskie tomorrow for safe keeping. I won't knock the Chinese military SKS's as they're just as good and just as accurate (albiet with sucky wood and slightly inferior finishing), but the Russians will go up in value and demand in a few years -- get one or two before they dry up. If you're old enough you will remember the "cheap" Enfields... now look where they are. :)

definitely buy from lebaron. I did the math on the $75 sks and its pretty much the same price before the cost of shipping. so from lebaron you're getting a better quality sks (russian) and its slightly cheaper if you buy a case of ammo from them as well.

then once you go to lebaron pm and we'll go up north and cut trees in half!
