I bought this front sight tool for the SKS

http:// www.leverarms.com/sks-parts-accessories/sks-front-sight-adjustment-tool.html

The problem is that the hole on the far side that allows
The drift pin to travel when you turn the adjustment screw doesn't fit cleanly over the drift pin and blocks it from being able to be adjusted for windage. I've tried fitting it on the front sight in almost every way that I can think of but it always covers a small part of the drift pin, blocking the ability to adjust it. Am I doing something wrong, or am I going to have to modify the tool to fit the sight hood properly? I really don't think that it should have to be modified, it should fit as is...?

Well you can't get at it from the top, the tool is too small. However, I managed to shim the bottom half of the 'c' with a blade in my nail clipper, which worked for adjusting windage in one direction. Doesn't seem to work as well going the other way.

Thats odd. I wonder if the adjuster is out of spec? I have a cheap $20 tool that i bought years ago and has worked for dozens upon dozens of rifles that went across my work bench. What make is your rifle? if all you paid is ten bucks, then try grinding down the bottom corner of the adjuster.

A quick hint for at the range, make sure the front sight is well lubricated and can move back and forth with a punch before you head out. many adjusters have been snapped in half because the sight was seized in place.

It's an SKS and the sight tool is supposedly for an SKS. I did oil the drift pin but haven't tried to move back and forth with a punch. I'll give that a try and oil it a few times more before I head out tomorrow, thanks for the tip. It definitely is stiff but its also definitely that the tool doesn't fit over the sight hood perfectly. (The relief hole that is supposed to let the drift pin through hangs up on one small edge preventing travel. The shim gives some space for it to move)
