My father came up to visit for a few days so took him out shooting. He used to be a VERY serious shooter many many years ago.

We were shooting several different platforms and he was still and excellent shot with everything. Like he never skipped a beat.

One of the rifles we took out was a 54 Izzy SKS, essentially stock. Surplus Czech ammo. At a solid 60 paces he was holding 3" groups consistently and with ease. I'm talking 20 rounds into 3 ". Did it several times. I know the word "group" and SKS tend not to go together but that's what they were.

Anyway .... for some reason we were getting quite a few FTF's and one stove pipe with this rifle. It's never really done this before with any ammo. Not really sure why it was doing so now. Have to do some research.

Didn't take any pictures because it was just more important to me to spend some time shooting with my Dad.

He really enjoyed it and so did I.

Get your Dad's out there shooting with you guys !!

Fail to feed or fail to fire? If it's a feeding issue, check your mag follower. Make sure it moves freely. If it's fail to fire, make sure the firing pin channel is clean and free of oil.

Sorry, fail to feed. Mag follower appears to be moving freely.

Last time you cleaned it... did you put the recoil spring in backward? The curly end goes into the bolt carrier. It will function the other way around but it can cause what you are experiencing, as it sometimes prevents the bolt carrier travelling back as far as it is supposed to.

Pretty sure I got it right but you never know. I'll take a look at that. Thanks for the tip.

ljones nailed it. Recoil spring was in backwards.

Haven't been able to get out and confirm fix but rifle had no such issues previous so have no doubt it's fine again.

That will teach me to clean in a rush, won't be missing that again.

Thank you ljones.
