I believe I have found a cure for those of you experiencing FTF's with Czech ammo in your SKS's. I had a close look at the firing pin tip on mine (40 series form Lever) and the tip of the pin had quite a flat profile with rather squarish edges, not the conventional hemispheric profile. I reasoned with the larger surface area of the tip that it would take more energy for a solid strike. I went out on a limb and CAREFULLY stoned the tip to a conventional hemispheric profile, without reducing the pin's overall length. The results so far have been 0 FTF's in about 400 rounds of Czech surplus ammo. I would be quite cautious about using any commercial or reloaded ammo with soft primers after this modification though as it could increase the likelyhood of slam fires. I pm'd this info to another CGN'r who was having difficulties and it cured the issue for him as well.
Just a note of caution if you decide to try this, it is better to take too little off and have to do it again than to go too far and have to order a replacement firing pin. Also DO NOT stone the pin to point, it should be rounded.
Hope this helps.
