Sks gas tube question

Just wondering if the gas tubes on all the different sks's are a standard length?
I'm restoring an Sks D and the gas tube that I bought for it is about 3/4 " too long, any thoughts?

To the best of my knowledge the ones that are different in comparison to the Chinese or Russian SKS are:

The cut down paratrooper (shorter).
Yugo (longer).
Albanian (longer).
But anything is possible with the SKS.

So I'd send it back, and ask for another, as I don't recall seeing a D model that was cut down, barrel or gas tube wise.

my gas tube is standard , length 24.4 cm .

Ok, thanks for the info, it looks like I need one that is 22 cm, I might have to do some cutting.

In order for it to work I will need to cut the end that goes into the rear sight, if I can find some tubing of the right diameter I can make a custom gas tube.

I hope you know what you are doing, as tolerances are pretty specific in those tubes.

if you dont weld back the end then it might not lock well and it will rattle like a snake.... have you thought of cutting the bigger end and reeming the bore so the piston would go further down the tube?

No, I had not thought of that, I'll look at it later, might be easier, thanks.

Sorry I don't have measurements(sold D) but I did try to fit a standard size cheese grater hand guard on a regualar tube on my D only to find it wasn't going to work. Off hand I would say the dif. is about a 1/2 inch

I've got a proper sks-d gas tube on the way thanks to Punkrockboy. I was wondering if someone that owns a D model would mind measuring the gas piston and op rod for me, thanks in advance.
