Should be easy enough to replace, but to find a replacement. Searched many dealer sites for this lol. Brainstorming a repair at least.

With all the sks's and knowledge the gun nutz must have i really thought i would get some help. Thankyou

Hello
Picked up matching (mostly) 1950 Tula for a good price because the handguard catch or lever is broke off with maybe a half inch remaining before the pin with the flat side protrudes thru the rear site. Tried to post a pic. Will shortly. Is there a trick or way to weld another makeshift lever to insure the handguard and piston assembly stay locked in position?

It's the first I've heard of one breaking. The original owner probably prayed it outward with a flathead screwdriver on multiple occasions thinking he could loosen it as opposed to developing tougher skin. lol. It's a pretty tight rivet holding the lever in place, but with the right tool, it's fixable if you can find a spare part. Put a WTB ad on EE. Somebody may have a parts gun they're willing to break-up. Or, use yours as a parts gun, sell the bits and pieces and buy another. I did that once, keeping only the OP rod, OP rod extension, both springs and the handguard assembly. I sold the stock, trigger group, barreled-action and magazine separately and made $250. My personal school of thought is unless an under-$500 gun had sentimental or collector value, those sorts of repairs are just not worth the hassle and time. Just a thought.

True enough. Will wait for access to EE and maybe find a barrel assembly with the latch. Thanks guys
