Hi All,
Now that the Russians are finally here it is time to run the 2009 SKS Honour Match. Since Ardent isn't in the game this year I will take this task on.

The rules are simple and function on the honour system.

-SKS ONLY, ANY MODEL AS LONG AS IT'S AN SKS, MODIFIED IS FINE AS LONG AS IT RETAINS STOCK SIGHTS

-BEST 5 ROUND GROUP AT 100 YARDS, AS MANY TRIES BEFORE DEADLINE AS YOUR HEART DESIRES

-OPEN, STOCK IRON SIGHTS ONLY

-ANY 7.62X39 AMMUNITION YOUR HEART DESIRES

-BENCH RESTED OK, NO "LEAD SLED" TYPE RESTS OR RETURN TO BATTERY RESTS

-ANY TARGET OF YOUR CHOICE

-GIVE 200 YARDS A CRACK IF YOU HAVE IT AVAILABLE TOO FOR GIGGLES, BUT THIS WILL BE BASED AROUND THE 100 YARD SHOOT

-TAKE A PIC OF YOUR RANGE AND YOUR TARGET IF POSSIBLE, IT'S GOOD FOR CONFIRMATION AND IT'S NICE TO SEE THE RANGES ANYHOW, IF YOU'RE CAMERALESS IT'S ALL GOOD YOU CAN STILL PLAY

- IDENTIFY TYPE OF SKS AND AMMUNITION (so we can see whic reigns supreme)

(Since it came up last year, easy way to measure group size is from the outside of the furthest hole to one side to the inside of the furthest hole on the other extreme; this gives the same measurement as center to center but provides more concise points to measure from.)

We have Chinese, Yugos, Russians and maybe some others to wager the challenge, let's see which comes in most accurate :)

ADDITION FEB. 2 09: We are adding a separate OPEN CLASS to the game, use any type of setup (optics, rest, aftermarket stocks etc). Tell us what you are using or take a photo. Let's see just how small of a group we can get out of an SKS.....
Remember thsi is all in fun and for CGN bragging rights so the more people we get out the better.

Cheers

Makes for an interesting challenge. The tables will be swayed in favour of those who reload their own ammunition. They will be able to custom load for their specific firearm and derive greater accuracy. How about military surplus only?

While the rules rely upon the honesty and integrity of the participant, might I suggest that the carbine must be in stock, as issued military condition only, with no aftermarket stocks or the bedding of the action. There can be no modification of the trigger mechanism.

The carbine in its entirety must be bone stock military issue with no modifications or improvements. Just as it came out of the crate. That would level the playing field.

Do you propose an end date for this range exercise?

Ending date will be May 1 to give those with lots of snow and ice time to warm up. We can change it if we want later, the point is to get people out shooting and enjoying their SKS. :)

I can see your point about aftermarket stocks and reloads but we want to keep it simple. All types can participate but the accolades and bragging rights will go to the best 5 round group from a stock military configuration SKS. Ammunition can be anything you want.

Funny enough the winning group for the last two matches was posted by me :) shooting my stock Norinco (military SKS refurbed by Norinco) and Czech ammo. It took 8-9 groups to get there but eventally I got 2 3/8" and 2 1/4" so the stock guns are not necessarily out.

Go out and have fun! ;)
Cheers

I am waiting to see how the Russians shoot Val, I had to sit back and say 'no' to a Russian and am kicking myself for it....so I am hoping some of you decide to sell of the 3rd and 4th of your Russian collection so I can pick one up. :)

Cheers

i think you should shoot from 150 yds and rest of us at 100. :D

I'm 100% in but as soon as my "hardware" arrives. I hope to get my SKS before weekend and give it a nice try!

My norinco probably won't win the accuracy test so can we have a prize for the worst grouping. It's not fair for us Chicom SKS owners to go against those pretty Russian models, everyone but me seems to have.

I can tell you guys now that my yogo will give you a run for your money:D it is by far the best shooting SKS I have ever shot. I was very impressed with it. I will get out on the next nice day.

There should also be prizes for ugliest, ###iest and what were you thinking rifle's! Also a 5 second 5 shot contest standing with iron sights only. 2 shot's @ the 25 meter, 2 shot's @ the 50 meter & 1 shot @ the 100 meter. What do you think?
