SKS HONOUR MATCH! Throwing down the gauntlet :)

heck the way i see it corrosive ammo is probably better for the rifle because then you have no choice but to clean it i was using Hungarian (claimed non corrosive) surplus ammo pretty steady when i got my sks then left it without cleaning when i went to school for a couple months and came back to a chamber so rusted that when i went to shoot it the cartridge got stuck in the chamber and did not even let the bolt carrier go all the way forward i had to clean out the rust with steel wool

WOW!! i just got back from the range and shot a 3inch 5round group at 100yards with my russian SKS it was my first time shooting it and i was really surprised, pretty f'n good for a 200bucks rifle... ill bring my camera next time... to be honest i didnt bring it cause i wasnt expecting much but im sold!!!

cheers,
ray

Rifle: Tula refurbished * I love that black paint :D

Ammunition: Privi Partisan 123 Grain soft point

I had a few doubles which was fun ! - gotta learn how to shoot a semi-auto rifle all over again :p

EDIT: I know it's against the match rules, but I have a tech sight target front sight and tech 200 rear, first I am going to retry it with the target front post & issue rear; and then with the target front post and the tech 200 rear sight.

fat tony,
don't worry about the match rules, at least you're doing some shooting which is more than most are :) Keep shooting and posting results.....and I challenge (friendly of course) all of the other Russian owners to get out there and shoot the match too.

I will be going out either tomorrow or next weekend for another try

Cheers

I shot this group today, i didnt have a ruler with me but i would say it was under 4inches, my best 5 rounds out of the 120 i shot :), the grouping was very good but it was far from where i was actually aiming but i eventually got to the center of my target and now all thats left to do is bring my lil' bro to the range and make him fire a couple of softpoints through it and he's ready for deer season

4" group?!!? Sorrybut I took your pic and superimposed it onto one of my groups using the bullet holes to calibrate size................that my friend appears to be just a hair over 2 3/8" :D

NICE SHOOTING AND THAT MAKES YOU OUR CURRENT LEADER!!

Good going scrufee, now let's see more folks out there now that spring is finally here.
Cheers

Second time at the range with my SKS Tula 51. After figuring out the sights at 25 then 50 this was my second crack at 100 yards. Oh and i did use a rest.

Had my "new" 1954 Tula out to the range several times over the last 3 weeks. Best I could do was a 3.10"- 5 rounds at 100 yds. This was with some Lapua FMJ that I've had for awhile. Tried some other factory (no surplus) and both jacketed and cast reloads. Some sub 3" 4 round groups always spoiled by a flier. Also had some wild groups 6-10". Cartridge seems very sensitive to minor (.5 gr) changes in powder charge. Time to put the SKS's away and get ready for ORA fun shoot at Borden and "Blast Off 2009"
(M14, Garand. No 4 and O3A3)
