Do you guys think it is possible to do? After all Beowulf has almost twice more energy! Will receiver be able to hold up?

Idea of such concergency was sparked by Mini-30 chambered in very same .50 Beowulf commercially sold here: w w w.ruger-mini-14-firearms.com/ruger_mini_prices.php
I would gladly pay up to $1K for such rifle but $2K price tag IMHO is not justified.

Why not?

.450 Bushmaster would be better IMHO tho. .45 cal bullets are more common than .50 cal, and .284 brass is not that hard to find.

Buy an SKS that has been butchered and go talk to some gunsmiths. Probably be over $1k but probably not over $2k.

C.I.P. max pressure for the 7.62x39mm is 51,488 psi and SAAMI max pressure for the .450 Bushmaster is 40,000psi so the project may be possible. Now I got a bad idea in my head...

But you would have to modify bolt to accommodate .450 Bushmaster. I'd rather keep cost of such project within $1K budget

I have to agree with the why question. Would it not be more effective just to purchase a gun in the caliber that you want? I thought the whole purpose of these guns were that they are a cheap semi-auto that fires cheap ammo ......... I am pretty sure that the ammo you are talking about would be considered on the expensive side. So why do it?

You want a inexpensive Bear Stopper but you want to put $1000+ into a SKS to do it??

Wow.

Possible?.. yes. Practical?.. no way. There's WAY better platforms for going .50 Beowolf. If you've got the $ laying around and want to try something new, let us know how it goes.

I definitely do not want to put $1K into SKS. I want SKS in .50 Beowulf for not more than $1K. Why? Because I would not worry about dropping/skratching/kicking it arround. Furthermore, original unpinned SKS mag holds just 5 rounds. ;)

So, what other semi-auto platform is more suitable for Beowolf?

The SKS is a bear stopper. Eventually.

As long as that "eventually" is not a bit too late. :)
