So i have been noticing non matching chinese sks listed 600 on cgn? What is up with this? Is anyone paying that for a 189.00 cabelas rifle?

I had a tapco sks matching numbers a while ago and bought it for a quarter shy of 500 a few months ago. I ended up selling it with ammo and magazines for 600. The days of sks rifles under 200 all long gone lol!

Just bought a 1954 Russian for $300 but that was only because the seller was hard up for fast cash.

btw.... did Cabelas stop selling SKS's? Haven't seen them listed on the website for awhile.

Cabelas stopped selling them for the time being. They will get more in eventually. 15 million floating around so bound to be a few more.

The days of a 600 dollar chinese non matching gun are also not yet here...

Did you buy it? Me neither, so I don't worry about it and let prices sort themselves out.

I agree with a laissez-faire approach to the economy as well. But with that there is also the expectation that when a price is way out of line that people can and do scrutinize it.

Right when COVID started, I bought one from another fellow here. At first glance I felt the asking price was high, but the rifle was in such good shape, with a beautiful stock, that in the end, I felt I should have paid even more.

And it shoots pretty well - 1-1.5" groups at 50 yards with peep sights.

But I laugh when I see them being sold in aftermarket stocks for $500+. Or more. In a while though, maybe that WILL be fair market value.

Cheers,
Neil

It’s a very well made rifle and i have several. I was thinking about getting an ar-180b in 7.62x39 and then thought it wont be better than what i already have. I think if an sks was built to the same specs today it wld be 800+.

I don't know why anyone would pay what they would cost to make one for today. But for $300 or so for a nice example, still a cool deal for me.

Wouldn't go higher.

As has been said, what with the bans etc, values on all semi autos have jumped. There's also the feeling that we will eventually run out of imports. Should be on the "buy right now for a sane price while you can if you don't have one yet" list.

And it isn't laissez-faire, exactly. The gouging is happening directly because of govt intervention affecting supply and demand curves. If it were true laissez-faire they would be much cheaper.

Most of what I have seen are SKS which have been modified with useless stocks and other stuff. Some people are claiming they have over $1K in them, lol. Yes prices did come up quite a bit, wonder what the prices will be once the dealers run out of surplus.

You can go well above 1k with modifications on a sks... i have done it.. enjoyed it for a while and now its whatever. Want a virgin sks lol
Thing is noone will buy a customized/modded sks as they thing its a 300$ rifle.

They’ll always be around for cheap, and ammo will always be cheap and plentiful.

Just like enfields and .303 British.
