Hey guys,
I'm having a problem installing a Tapco Intrafuse stock onto my 1952 Russian SKS. I disassembled the wooden handguard from the gas tube as per the Intrafuse instructions. I then place the Tapco handguard into place, and line up the holes in the gas tube and the gas tube bracket for the pin. Here is where I run into my problem...
I placed the gas tube bracket into place, and install the pin provided by Tapco. Once the pin was installed, I then checked the fit of the hand guard by grasping the gas tube and then gripping the newly installed handguard...but then...
The handguard is loose and I can actually slide it back and forth on the gas tube about 1/64th-1/32nd of an inch. It's not a crazy amount of play but you can feel it "click" back and forth.
I then tried to install the gas tube onto the receiver, but then when I push the lever down, it won't go. Then I noticed that the gas tube bracket is quite loose, preventing the lever from moving correctly.
It's almost as if the handguard that came with the Tapco stock is too small. If it was too big I can file off material to make it fit, but if it's already too loose then there's nothing I can do. I followed the instructions provided and made sure I was installing the handguard in the correction direction. I'm not sure what I did wrong, if anything. If you guys need any more info from me, just let me know. I might be able to take a picture of how my gas tube looks and post it here.
Thanks for your help!
Update on Nov. 3rd:
I measured the Tapco Intrafuse hand guard and the wooden handguard that came with my SKS. The Tapco handguard measures 1/32nd shorter than the wooden handguard. So that would explain the sloppiness in the fit.
