SKS Jamming on last round

My Norinco SKS seems to be having some strange issues. I took it out to the range yesterday and it shot fine for about 50 rounds, but after that the bolt began catching the last round bullet up, and the "magazine" would pop open. This got progressively worse as I shot more. It may also be worth noting that this happened a few times when I was only on the second round, and the magazine popped open dumping the remaining bullets, so it's not exclusive to the last round but that's when it occurred most often. I was shooting some surplus Romanian FMJ rounds that are extremely dirty, so I'm thinking that could've been a possible cause for this?

The original stock has been replaced with an aftermarket synthetic stock, and it fits pretty tight, however I noticed that the magazine wiggles left to right a tiny bit. Not sure if that could have something to do with it.

What do you guys think could be causing the jams?

probably just needs cleaning,, as you said it got progressively worse as it was fired and your firing ( as you described ) dirty ammo. Clean the gas tube and piston. I've had the same thing happen when firing re-loads with 155g lead bullets, the lead fouls the gas tube and piston causing the action to not fully eject rounds.

Usually that's caused by the feed lips. (The curved part of the top of the mag that retains the bullets and holds them intact till they are ready to be pushed into the chamber from the bold). If they are incorrectly shaped it will force the bullet to improperly feed. Ie to much of an angle. That's usually the cause of the problems from aftermarket mags. Could be the issue here with the stock one. ?

I will clean her out today and see what the situation's like on the inside.

For next time I'll try to grab some higher quality ammo and see if the problem persists.

Hi,

Check your magazine latch. Make sure the latch, is in closed position all the way. Give it a good tap on the bottom, like you see in the movies. Had same problem with one of mine. Please, try that.

If you said the new stock is very tight it may be restricting the latch from fully engaging, make sure it moves freely. There may still be some residual comso around the latch at some point causing extra friction as well.
