After holding a laminate stocked SKS, I fell in love with the look but I did not have the money to purchase it. I also like my 1953 Tula and don't wish to own a second SKS. In this case, I am interested in a laminate stock and hand guard to swap with my hardwood stock.

In that case, does anyone know (or have) an SKS laminate stock and hand guard laying around that they would be willing to sell or know of a dealer that sells them ?

Thanks!

I'd post a WTB an in the EE. I know some people got a tapco or other aftermarket stock and may not need one anymore

I had the same idea but figured I would ask first, sometimes you never know.

Your stock serial numbers won't match.

I know but I would simply be acquiring the stock and hand guard simply for the look as I will always have the matching stock on hand and available to put back in. Speaking of which, has anyone had success in removed the hand guard covering the gas piston assembly, my hardwood hand guard was on there pretty tight the last time I checked.

I also saw something different when I held that laminate SKS at the dealer. It had what looked like a reinforcement screw through the pistol grip, something my hardwood did not. Is this standard for laminate stocks ? Was it done to reinforce the pistol grip area ?

Yup. The solid birch stocks were prone to crack in the grip area, perhaps that is one of the reasons they went to laminate. You will notice the laminate stocks are thinner in the grip as well, so they put in an extra crossbolt there for extra reinforcement.

I only like the lam for the look, so I have one but I really prefer the fuller, more comfortable grip of the solid stock.
