SKS Mag Pinned vs Franken Pinned

the nice ones were done by the Chinese
the made a nice pin that made it five rounds and then reblued it to match

Franken pinned was done several years ago for 1 year to the russian sks (only to the russian) where by a half inch hole was drilled to the botton of the mag thus destroying the serial number then they put a giant metal plug on the inside and welded it from the outside looking like a crap. i personally avoid them unless i get a good price like $450.
 
I have one franken pinned one which is otherwise a nice rifle. I just grinded the weld flat and reblued it, can't stand the look. I could buy some punches and re punch it. :redface:
 
Frankenpin can be ugly but I've seen way more complaints about feeding issues with the ones with stuff welded to the followers. Mine is pinned though the mag bottom, but forward of the serial #.
 
I had one that had a post put into a hole in the follower that I guess was supposed to be mushroomed on but it fell out after my first range trip and I ended up welding it in myself
