Hey guys..
silly question about SKS vs. say a CZ 858 or VZ 58.
Do any SKS models have detachable magazines? I was looking at a nice yugo SKS on the exchange board, but then it turned out to have a fixed mag and I really like my detachable mags.. have missed 2 deer because my rifle was too slow to load as I was falling out of the car.
Thanks for any hints.

LOL hint #1 Stop the car 1st hehehe :D

But seriously..... If you practice with stripper clips, You can load just as fast as with a magazine.

^ Yep. You can get removable "duckbill" mags (so named for the extension at the top front of the mag that allows it to grab the notch at the front of the mag well) for a fixed-mag SKS, but they tend not to work all that great. I've got 2 myself, and they're a pleasant novelty, but the fun wears off quick when the plastic follower won't depress the hold-open latch after the last round, and you have to use 3 hands to pull the bolt back, depress the mag catch and slide the mag out  Biggest PITA ever!

If you wanna load rounds into battery quickly (since it's illegal to have a loaded firearm and/or live ammo in battery/magazine inside a vehicle), why don't you use stripper clips? I can zip 5 rounds in and rack the bolt in less than 4 seconds personally, without even trying. Give it a try, you might like it...

Edit; Dammit! Norseman beat me to it  lol!

I agree, the stripper clips are great. I can charge and rack my SKS faster than I can insert a magazine and release the bolt on some of my other auto's.

Interesting opinions, gentlemen. thanks. I may change my mind.. the sks in question was a yugo and the seller was looking for $225.

If it looks to be in good shape, and the seller seems like a nice guy then I vote for the Yugo!
