SKS magazine stuck, won't come out

I'm trying to disassemble my completely stock, un-modded, late model Chinese Norinco SKS.
I get it almost completely disassembled - receiver cover, recoil spring, bolt carrier and bolt assembly, gas cylinder tube, trigger group - all removed. But I can't get the magazine to come out. I tried gently to persuade it with a screw driver and it moves about 1/4". I don't want to force it out, however.
The videos I watched on youtube and the diagrams I've looked at all show the magazine lifting out of the stock with minimal effort. Searched gunnutz archives and couldn't find any previous reference to this problem.
What am I doing wrong?

you're not doing anything wrong , just a sticky mag , use a screw driver and place it where the trigger locks in the mag lug and pull up , if it continue to persist after cleaning then you may need to file a wee bit.

Chinese SKS magazine stuck

OK - I tried prying (with the screw driver, like you said) but it's still stuck in there real good. I placed the screw driver on the top edge/rim of the magazine, from above, and tapped with authority but the magazine still doesn't move more than 1/4". I don't know how much more I should try to force it. :bangHead:
Where abouts should I be filing in order to loosen the magazine?

Just a quick question.
Is the bolt carrier pulled back when you are tring to remove the mag or is it closed?
I am saying this because the sks mag will only come free if the action is open.

The gun is almost completely disassembled - receiver cover, recoil spring, bolt carrier and bolt assembly, gas cylinder tube, trigger group - all removed...so the bolt carrier isn't even in the rifle.

ok, try this, make sure you removed the cleaning rod and extend the bayo.

hold the rifle upside down with both hands , left hand by the barrel and the right hand on the buttstock , hold it about a foot off the carpet.

continue holding the barrel and let go the buttstock and let the buttstock hit the carpet, repeat a few time.

Finally got the SKS magazine out

Well, I tried the buttstock drop but it didn't work. That mag was really jambed in there good. I finally worked the magazine loose with a very small prybar/nail remover tool.
After I got the barrel assembly out of the stock, I tried to make the magazine fit back into the barrel assembly but it was so tight that I would have had to hammer on that mag to get it to fit in. I took your earlier advice and got busy with a file. I took a tiny bit of metal off the front of the little hook/latch piece of magazine.
After this modification, the magazine can now easily be removed and then re-inserted just like in the movies (ie. youtube). :dancingbanana:
Thanks for the help, Curtton.
