Hey folks my first post so go easy one me :). I've recently received my PAL and collected a few fun guns however for shooting fun my .22 just isn't cutting it. As cost is a slight factor i've been looking into the SKS. I understand this is a large market and there are a few options as far as what kind of SKS one would purchase. Im hoping all you experts out here can help me out:

Which type/model SKS is most easily modified?

Are all SKS able to take 5/30 clips?

Are any SKS easier or harder to replace original stock with a more tactical after market stock?

Most recommended After market dealer?

Thanks for your help

They're all more or less the same, except the Yugos but they are rareish. SKS-D and I think SKS-M can take AK mags, but there are a ton of removable duckbill mags on the aftermarket for normal SKS's. Folks seem to prefer Russian SKS's as far as quality goes. Milsurp ammo uses corrosive primer, so the whole gun has to be taken apart and cleaned after every time you shoot it...luckily they are ridiculously easy to take apart. They aren't the most accurate rifle around but they aren't terrible either, and they are really reliable...any bad SKS stories you hear are usually the result of owners not taking care of them. just buy one! you wont regret it. If youre planning to mod, then Id say go with a chinese instead of hacking up a good russian rifle. There is a plethora of afterkarket mags out there for the SKS, duckbill for type 45/56 and AK for SKS-D and M. As far as easily modified, that is more a parts thing. Some parts are made better than others, and some are just pretty and dont fit worth a damn. You just need to get creative and make them fit (always modify the part, not the rifle)
