Thinking I'd like one on my wall hanger. Like the idea of just twist on instead of drilling or having to cut anything.

Tagged . . . My girlfriend wants one for hers, and she took the bayonet off.

And here I thought I met a classy woman.

Tagged... I've seen a lot of "opinion" but not much in the form of decent range reports.

7.62x39 has only 7 pounds of recoil energy on a more or less heavy SKS rifle. Children can shoot this round, what difference do you actually think its going to make by using a muzzle break? Perhaps you could consider that there are few range reports because its an esthetic modification only when used on this caliber.

Check out the "CHOATE SKS Recoil Compensator" available at alliedarms.ca, I have this one on my son's SKS, it holds on solid, and helps with muzzle climb.

begin the recoil debate! Yes they work. Its more about follow up shots than recoil, for some people at least.

That would explain why some people have them on their 22cal as well. For those of us who are larger than 75 pounds it just makes it louder, but I suppose some people will justify anything rather than admit they wasted money on something silly.

The link shows there is no such product on that site.
People put daft stuff on SKS' all the time. Muzzle brakes because they think it looks cool. Really just a way of separating you from your money. An SKS doesn't need a brake for recoil or muzzle jump. There's none of either.

Well, there's no recoil or muzzle jump, unless the shooter weighs around 80 pounds! Which is the case with my younger son :) So the Choate brake is solid, well designed, and does its job. I do agree though, unless the rifle weighs more than you, there's little need for it.

I dunno... I've put somewhere north of 1K rounds through my SKS, and granted, it has very little recoil and muzzle flip, but "more than zero" on both. But with the grindy/heavy trigger and fairly long reset, I'm not sure I'd get any faster follow-ups by reducing both, given the minimal gains you'd get from a compensator.

And yah, part of it comes down to looks. Also, "making it noisier" doesn't make it more effective, but isn't a bad thing either, especially seeing as the SKS is mostly a "sh*ts and giggles" gun anyway.

Also, sometimes it's just plain fun to wind up the purists and watch them foam at the mouth.
