hey guys i have a bolt on muzzlebrake for my sks that i was thinking of putting on my mosin, is their anything i should know before i blow off my face? i figure since they are both 7.62 i would be in the clear

It can be really dangerous if its not perfectly aligned with the bore.

:nest:

Don't put a SKS muzzle brake on a Mosin Nagant.
Don't get hurt, spend 30 bucks and buy another one especially made for a Mosin Nagant.

Very few rifles and guns can interchange their parts, again, it can be very dangerous.
Keep that in mind my friend :p

Are the barrels even the same dimension?

If they arent its a waste of time.

If they are then i doubt theres much difference between a mosin one and an sks one. They have to be basically idiot proof anyways as I doubt people check alignment if they put one on an SKS.

This is not advice.

Don't even try it. Firstly, it does need to be precisely aligned for it work without going off like a grenade and injuring you.

Second problem is that the Mosin's 7.62x54mmR cartridge is delivering roughly twice the power of its little brother 7.62x39mm. When the force of it hits the brake, it will shear the little screws off and send your muzzle brake sailing 50 yards downrange. If you are going to 'brake a Mosin, it has to be threaded.

Theorically yes but keep in mind some ( read most ) M/N bore are not concentric with the outside diameter ( OD ). You have the same problem using other types... clamped, pinned...

IMO you can't compare the machinig of an SKS to a M/Nagant.
Even if a M/N has much better accuracy, but this is another story.

If you put a muzzle brake on your M/N, it will probably be your loudest rifle !!! :D yeah i mean very loud !!! ;)

Whats the point of braking a Mosin? Is there a reason to add 2 more inches to something thats already seven feet long? A Mosin is not a light rifle, but at the same time, its not a 45/70. There are lighter rounds to shoot if traditional x54R is too heavy for you. A break on a Mosin is a waste of time and resources, IMO.
