I just ordered a SKS this morning from canam and was wondering if you guys could recommend upgrades and if it is possible to make it look like an AK47 with folding stock. Thanks

well some will say that it perfect like they are , some will put different stock on it , for the AK 47 look it depend what you whant to do and the price ...

By the time you buy and do all the mods to get an SKS looking like an AK (as you define it, wood with a wire stock), you'll find you spent almost as much as it would have if you had just bought a CSA 858, which has "the look" out of the box. Really not much out there for an "out of the box, no gunsmithing" transformation. It will require a fair bit of custom work. It has been done, and there's a few threads here on how to do it, but it's not terribly simple.

If you want it to look like a "modern AK" (tactical plastic), try hical:

I really like my sks and vz58's and im sure you will too. Don't waste time and money on making an sks a "AK" look alike. The VZ58 will be more reliable and closer to the look for the same money

Can you really get a CSA 858 for less than $1000? I bought my SKS for $170. After a new stock, red dot, Kwik rail, front pistol grip it is now a $500 gun. It would be $600 if I went with the Archangel stock. But I went for the ATI because I was poor and impatient at the time.

Are you talking about a CZ 858 or a VZ 58?

I assume most Canadians interchange CZ 858 and CSA Vz 58 with each other but are referring to the same game. Back when I had my Vz 58, the price tag was only $600 with 4 magazines, cleaning kit, sling, and bayonet. Basically an all in one mall ninja package. Today, the CSA's are $1000 or more and I don't expect the new Brno CZ 958 is going to be any cheaper. Back then it was a better idea to get the Vz 58.

Oh, you can do up an SKS with an ATI or Archangel or whatever stock for fairly inexpensive, but he wanted to do one up with the full AK treatment with a wire folding stock and wood grips and fore-end... And that's heading down custom-land, because there's nothing out of the box that can achieve that. There are a few threads around of guys who've managed to pull of "SKS/AK" cosmetic jobs, but it either took a ton of hours and elbow grease, or an emptying of wallet at the gunsmith. If you know a cheaper way to achieve that, I'd actually be interested (no sarcasm there, I'd actually be quite interested).

Poking around some sponsor sites, I was seeing the 858 in the $800-$1K-ish range, depending on trim.

Yeah there is no sense doing that with the Vz's and Cz's in existance. They got some serious reclassifying to do before you need to go through that kind of trouble...

the little project i started a couple month ago would be a drop in kit .... like a tapco or any other , the hard part removing the handguard pin and the dust cover pin , i know it not yet done in metal but ....

Putting a lot of money into an SKS is pointless.
All that I want to do is put a picatinny rail on the rare leaf sight so I can put a red dot reflex site on.
I mite buy a 5/20 magazine for it as well, I’m not sure about getting a stock kit, because I like the wood stock

if you want an AK look, go for a VZ58.
