OK SKS guys out there.
I have the red rifle trio :) and now have decided to scope my SKS. I know i know, its not a super accurate blah blah blah. I'm only shooting out to 100M at Silverdale. Mine is refurbed with mis matched mag and tube, refurbed parts , not collector first rifle open to any and every mod thing i can do to make it nicer.... My wife actually likes the SKS as well ( she was brave and shot the mosin and svt ) but too much for her little blond 115 pound body :p mmmmm i have a hot wife yeah hahaha.

SO Question.
I bought a Bushnell Banner DD multi x reticle 3x9 40mm scope
I have ordered a Magwedge Kwik Rail w/ quick pin ( probably will arrive in a week or so )

I need scope rings ( have been looking on amazon and ebay ) Don't really want to order from there for chances of crap..
I don't know (A) which scope rings would be best ? and (B) What is the best height to get for the SKS, if the front sight will be in the way etc.....
(C) What brand and dealer ( not looking for 50$ plus Leupolds or Vortex ) but something nice.. I kinda like to two bolt per ring setup but advice needed :)
I will post pics when i get everything set up for all who like this kinda stuff.

Thanks alot Fellas ( I really love this forum for the info and commradery )

Your rail is being dropped at the post office today by the way, packaged and postage paid last night.

I favour a compact scope like the one on my demo rifle, which is a 2-6x, but a 3x or a 4x is fine by me.

Given the cost of the rifle I have been content to use cheap Chinese optics on it, so I don't have any advice for you in terms of better quality brand names.

Hey Thanks So Much for the reply, you know i went back and forth with the idea or Wartak, Magwedge and the addley precision mount, thought you guys would be best to serve what i want it for.

Really i am just in need of rings now. I thought about a cheaper optic, but i think the one i have will maximize fun for both me and the wife at the range and be able to see downrange with the visi targets. I just don't know how high the high rings sit as opposed to the medium or low....I just don't want to get the wrong size and say have the front sight post in the way of my scope :)

Seriously though, can't wait for the rail and am totally happy to go MAGWEDGE !!!! :) Again, i have read other posts and see that you guys seriously help out and care about the customer experience and i have read your reply's to people seeking help. again another reason to choose right !!

Cheers

Low rings are what normally are used for 40mm objective lens. For my 4-16x40 I installed UTG Pro Max Strength Low rings last week and they are perfect height but that is on my .22. I have a Vortex 6-18x44 for my SKS with Wartak rail and Med rings were too low (by 4mm) so I had to get high rings. You will have to get the dimensions on what ever rings you are considering because one brands low rings can be another brands med rings. Example UTG low rings are only 3mm lower than Leupold high rings. This is why I have 2 sets of rings 4 sale now (Leupold high and UTG Med). The UTG med are higher than Leupold high :bangHead:

I tried to mount a Bushnell sharpshooter 3-9x40 (take off from a Savage Axis package rifle) on my magwedge rail using the medium rings off the Savage as well. Everything cleared ok, but to get the eye relief I needed, the scope sat too far forward for the rail to pivot up for cleaning. So I had a set of Weaver quick release grand slam medium rings I bought for another project that hasn't happened yet. Turns out they are lower than the ones off the Savage (Ontario597, I feel your pain) and the ocular bell would not clear the rail. I ended up stealing a Banner in 1-4x32 in medium rings off my slug gun, which I was thinking of upgrading anyway. To mount the scope you have, Weaver grand slams in high will work(they are all steel and the newer ones have 4 screws per cap). You may want to go with a quick release style, as you will likely have the same issue as I did with the 3-9x40 not allowing the rail to pivot for cleaning.

I did decide to go with the quick release style since a 6-18x44 will get in the way so I ordered the UTG Integral High-pro QD Mount I should have 7mm between the scope and the rail, I'll know when it comes Monday.

Trew trew, alright well the ring issue i hope is solved. my wife i know iknow pulled up amazon yesterday and was doing some valentines present looking and i had the
UTG LE Grade 3 screw Med profile rings, i had them in the cart but wasn't going to buy, then the wife offered and just get em so, i got those and a bayo lug biopd for the SKS. I will try these out when all arrives and gets setup and i will get some pix up for you guys cuase everyone loves pix right :) Thanks for the replys boys

If you're shooting only to 100 meters, then why buy a 3-9? 1-4 would be much lighter, mount much lower, and look much better.

Don't go cheap on rings. Pick the rings that allow you to go as low as you can go. Avoid see though rings. These rings advertise that you can still use your iron sights in which case you can't because the bell of the scope is in the way plus it mounts the scope way too high.

I picked 3x9 , i dunno out of a hat hahahaha.... I have never really used any sort of optic before...and after going to the range a few times and shooting he 40/60 and 100m. Using the Visi targets, i find i can't see what im hitting and my eyesight is just fine... I thought maybe having an optic with a big of zoom would help alot looking those zombie targets in the eye at 100M hahaha

I started with a 3-9x40 on my .22 but after 1 trip to range I put it up for sale and got a 4-16x40 and was glad I did. It's great to be up close at 50y and at 100y you need the 16x to see the little holes a .22 makes. I'd rather save the money I'd spend on binoculars and spotting scope and put it all into a rifle scope that can do it all that's why I have a 6-18x44 for the SKS.
