Sks or a m14

Easily, the M305. Remington factory 125 grain 7.62 x 39 when sighted in at 100, drops 2.2" at 150 and 6.7" at 200. Energy drops like a brick between 100 and 200 too. Their 'Managed Recoil'(just because of the like bullet weight) 125 grain .308 drops 1.5 and 4.9 inches at the same distances. Energy's not too bad at 200. Mind you, a .308 with a 125 grain bullet is a varmint round.
Accuracy has a lot of variables. Not the least of which is the rifle's sights. SKS sights are poor at any distance. The SKS isn't made for great accuracy either.

M1a makes me think of National Match, high accuracy competition shooting etc.
SKS is giving the average person a lead dispenser.

Are you trying to decide which one to buy?

Accuracy is no question M14 hands down.

The real questions:
Do you like to shoot alot?
If yes, then:
Are you rich?
If no, then:
Do you like reloading?
If no, then buy an SKS.

No I'm buying both :) just waiting for my license. I was in the military and never bothered getting my license. I have one of each on hold for me

My iron peep sighted Springfield ArmoryM1A (sold) shot 4" groups at 200 meters with surplus 7.62 x 51, vs. my Russian SKS groups 10" with Czech corrosive surplus. Both groups only happen when I am shooting my best.

Lots of things can be said on why one is better than the other but simple answer is both guns and cartridges have their limitations or advantages, as well as the shooters themselves.

Nice to have both but I like to simplify my ammo logistics, which means cheap ammo. Have fun.

Ok I will play. My m-305 was minute of typing paper out to 300 yards. The sks is minute of typing paper to 200.

M-305 is much more accurate. Even if you reload surplus ammo is cheaper by the case.

Many have said buy both. They are different and fun in their own way.

my sks shot tighter groups at 100 than my friend's m-305 both shooting milsurp. farther out i don't know but my ruskie at 100 yards and closer is the winner. i also outshot his H&K SL8 at 50 yards and he had a red dot shooting federal fmj rounds. something wrong with my sks. more accurate than it's supposed to be. never jammed either. some food for thought

i thought so at first then we switched and he started outshooting me. he was quite upset. that SL8 was $3000 and my $200 commy gun shot better. now we move farther out and just his ability to attach better optics is gonna make it much better. i agree though buy both. after shooting his 305 i've been looking for one myself. they're a blast

He was probaly using IVI in his m14s!
:D
Impact Verries Imensly!
I baught a whole bunch of this crap and the South African stuff for my m14s & it spray paints the target but on the other hand the Norinco stuff is a nice 2" group @100. Also some SKS are verry well refurbed and some are just "stinkers". I think it's the luck of the drawn on that. Although the SL8 can eat preaty much any 223 ammo I have found that 63 grain "green tips" work the best and my friend's SL8 @ POCO can even double bunch the same whole if he does his part. But if he switch's over to the American Eagle 55 grain Boat Tail's it opens up like a can of worms. I find it so weird how the same bullets work differently in different rifles even though they have the same length and rate of twist. A well that's what make shooting so much fun!

true. i just got lucky that my sks shoots the cheapest crap(chech milsurp) the best so far from any i've found. includes three different kinds of wolf, remington, and priv partisan. wolf milclassic 122 JHP is second and performance on reactive targets is impressive. equals rem soft points but costs 1/3 the price if you can find it
