just finished cleaning the 8 gallons of cosmo out of my new SKS. it`s a rougher one, makes my first look like it`s brand new never been used.
anyway, other than the mismatched numbers and BBQ paint, it seems to be in good shape. like many of you, i boiled the cosmo off in water on a hotplate. as i was removing the parts, drying and reoiling, i noticed that the black finish on the lower bolt piece ( part with firing pin) was coming off, peeling like paint. not all of it came off, and it does not bother me, but anyone else see this before? i`d post a pic, but didn`t take one. just think of flaking paint on something you like thats not supposed to flake and you`ll know what i mean.

none of the other paint came off anywhere else.

Yes this paint was applied during refurb to a percentage of the bolts. It will wear off gradually, regular maintenance and cleaning procedures will take care of the residue. Doesn't affect function... takes much more than that to stop SKS from going bang Comrade...
