So I took my new para SKS to a field out back of the farm. My rig has the Choate mount with the awesome TRS-25 mounted. After a quick degrease and light oil ( with Slip 2000, the best CLP made), it was "trigger time"!!! I was shooting Hornady factory 123gr SST ammo. Took four rounds to get zeroed, then 50 long paces back i got prone and fired two groups of three rounds. Both were right under 1.5 inches, hitting about one inch low. The trigger is typical SKS, and I am sure that with use it will get less "crunchy". We are restricted to seven rounds max on semi autos- and my stripper clips worked perfectly. The TRS 25 is excellent, I had it set at "8" and the dot was easy to see in the very bright setting sun. The rifle stock has some nice grain, with a reddish stain. Some dings and marks, but good condition. The bolt and magazine do not match with the receiver serial number but that is no problem. What a kick ass rig. I am off to engage and neutralize feral goats this weekend. Double taps will be the fire drill....

I reckon the Hornady ammo has alot to do with the accuracy- i will be trying Barnaul, Tula, and Hungarian surplus to compare. The hornady ammo is very clean - makes for an easy clean up! The TRS-25 makes getting rounds on target way easier ( at least for my eyes). I wish I could find someone in Canada that could ship me a aperture sight to replace the factory rear sight. Nobody seems to ship to New Zealand!

I think Canada ran out as the manufacturer didn't do the paperwork for export under the new system (last time I checked). I think one member here welded on a Garand aperture on his receiver cover, but your best bet might be using Williams sights (not a great idea for failing eyesight).

I just want the rear aperture- as I want to retain the adjustable front sight. About five years ago I had an sks with the Williams fire sights but I didn't like the non adjustable front fiber optic sight. Not a huge issue as the TRS-25 is friggin' amazing. I just like having the open sights as back up.
