SKS parts

Hello I am new here and am looking for some info on parts. I am wanting to put a Choate scope mount and a 5 round detachable magazine on my SKS. After looking around the forum I have been directed towards sksman.com. However when I got my PAL the instructor told us that importing any gun parts from the US is illegal. So I am wondering the legality of this. I have a box in the states as I live close to the boarder so will I be able to take these parts across on my own to save on duty and shipping. For the 5 round mag, what is the best one? I found this one at Marstar

not any gun parts is illegal, barrel, bolt,magazine not pinned etc... is illegal
But firing pin , trigger ,muzzle brake, etc.. you can

Personally I bought a lots of different parts from the US ( sksman, numrich ect.)
and I never had problem but magazine have to be pinned to 5 rnds before shipping
 
SKSman has the Choate mount which is the best for this rifle. Call him (Paul) and it will ship to you quickly $42 US). The best place I found in Canada for pinned Tapco magazines is fabsports.ca. They usually keep them in stock and they ship fast (also not too expensive $30 each for the 20 round mag pinned at 5). I don't believe you are likely to be able to buy pinned magazines in USA. In my opinion the Tapco magazines are the best fit for the SKS. Good luck and have FUN.

I bought the John Mason SKS Steel Detachable 5 RD Magazine from SKS man.

These reguired a slight file to fit in my chinese in monte carlo stock, they will not fit my tula in laminate. I have not tried in either of the other stocks. You will need to widen the mag opening in the stock a bit.
(He did not have any of the U.S. made SKS Zytel Detachable 5 RD Magazine available, something about being discontinued??)


I have the Promag 5-Rounder from Hical.ca, these require very little file to fit both rifles. Just a slight round to sharp edges,

I also have the big 5/20 Tapco mags, these did not have to be filed to fit any of my sks in any stocks( ATI, Tapco, Birch and laminate)

As long as the are the legal made to 5 rounds you can import from the USA.

SKSman is great to deal with, call him up,
Marstar had no metal 5 rounders available a few weeks ago, and could not tell me when they were getting some.
